The Pack o' Siberian Huskies (Update)

advertisement

It is going on two months since I wrote about the Pack, and I thought that you all would like to know how things are shaping up. I would first like to say that all is well as can be for them and me, even with the restrictions on our movements around the neighborhood. My mom is still concerned about the attack by LT and Loki on the little animals that run around free and unsupervised here.

I have put the Coast to Coast idea in the round file for a couple of reasons; 1) LT's viciousness as to small animals and a lesser extent Loki's learning of his father's ways, and 2) Diva has given birth o another litter of pups! So that idea of crossing the nation is out (Fun though, it sounded). ~last bit in the voice of Yoda~

I want to keep all of the pups but that is not feasible here in Santa Ana CA, so it looks like I will be parting with most of them. I told my mom that I wanted to keep three, she says one, I think I will end up keeping two.

My Pack has got to be the most spoiled group of dogs on the west coast, they get their kibble mixed with chicken broth, Diva gets a nursing @!$%# milk fortifier and a can of soup/stew on top of the normal kibble/broth combo. I have thought about the extended wilderness living that both The Pack and I will shortly be doing, and a six month supply of kibble and broth alone will be right at (30), 40lbs bags of kibble and (270), 16oz cans of broth. I will be stocking large quantities of food staples, so baking treats (biscuits and such) will be a healthy alternative to stocking store bought ones. Not to bad for the pleasure of their company, and the knowledge that they are strong and happy.

I know some will think me an irresponsible pet owner for allowing Diva the opportunity to get preggers again, but honestly I thought that there was time to get it done, But Nnooo.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Update on Loki:

This morning I went out to check on the pack and the master of mayhem, the maker of mischief, Loki got me good (right square in the nuts) and took my breath away. Not funny Loki! He is not even a year old and he is already a monster. I was "going commando" and hanging low, so he really got me.

Was that TMI? Oh well, I hope my pain brought you a smile. X^)

Aloha Yall

I can't wait to have a dog. Not for this reason, obviously.

We raised Malamutes when I was a kid and these pictures took me back. We also had red and black ones. In fact Our first "Nanook" was known as the 50th red in the lower 48. Thanks for the pics.

Hi Kenyon,

It's my pleasure to share the litte'uns with you, I just had to transfer them to a larger shipping crate because though they are just three days shy of their first month, they had outgrown the tub they were in. :^) this round Diva produced four red and white, two black and white, one grey w/black markings and one that has a little of all three colors, a very nice spread of the Siberian Husky color spectrum.

Aloha my friend

Hey Sue,

They are a bunch of little heart-stealers aren't they? I really dread the thought of letting any go. :^(

Headscatches and belly rubs to your pups, and a nod to the feline. :^)

All my best,

Aloha

Such beautiful babies! I too wish I could take one off your hands, but to tell the truth, I'm not alpha enough for that type of dog, and you need to be a strong personality.

*Sigh*

I think I'll keep the little couch potato I have.

Hi Lady S,

Now that I've started to spend time with the little'uns (I gave Diva her space with them for two weeks) I find myself over by their crate more and more. Do not let anyone tell you that Siberian Huskies are not habit forming! Diva is starting to let Loki poke his nose in the crate to check out his new brothers and sisters, but LT (papa) is still dog non-grata. :^)

Yes they do require a strong hand at times (they are all very independent and headstrong) it is a most pleasant breed overall for an active individual.

Hope you and yours are fine and well,

Aloha

Lots of work, you ain't blowing smoke! But Diva is a real good mommy, and I do have a doting older lady to help also, so I have no complaints. :^)

Hi VMS,

I just told our neighbor's son (he is down from Oregon) how much I will be asking for them and he said that after he clears it with the wife, a deposit will be made. Huskies are a direct link to the early developement of the K9 and man relationship and I think that allot of people feels a draw to these wonderful dogs. My thoughts on the number of pets - The more the merrier!- but that is an obvious opinion. X^)

I am glad you enjoyed the photos. Today the pups turn 1 month old, I will have to figure out an interesting format to present more photos, since there are eight of the little fur-balls, maybe an Eight-Things piece?

Have a great day,

Aloha

It's great to hear what's up with you and your pooches... Sorry to hear your not doing the cross country thing, but I can hardly blame you... I can't imagine how difficult that would be...

Cute pups!!!

My dream is to open a home for geriatric Malamutes...

Hey Mal-Man,

Thank you for dropping in, and for your kind words.

I was looking forward to running the dogs long distance with the cart and trailer, but after reflection while camping (I took a break from NV and the internet in late Nov.) I had made up my mind that the trip would be dangerous to small pets on our route, then Diva's belly dropped and these little'uns came along finalizing the determination.

Lobo (my oldest Husky) was fat and lazy at 9 years old, then LT and Diva entered the Schultz Compond and he seems to be getting thinner and much more active with the interaction of others of his breed. It does not hurt that they all are on a very specific diet that feeds their athletic needs.

All my best and blessings to you my friend,

Aloha

Hi Robertlyn,

Loved, loved, loved reading about your dogs. Those babies are gorgeous. And you are clearly a great dog dad.

I was mom to Samoyeds for 20+ years. Bid farewell to our last guy last Fall. So reading about their Arctic cousins did my heart good. Your Loki sounds like our Sacha, our first Sammie, who was a major trickster and always getting into some kind of mischief. Very alpha. Ah, these northern breeds are just the best.

Hey Sydney,

I am glad you enjoyed the piece, and thank you for your kind words.

Samoyeds are very cool dogs, if I'm not mistaken they were guard dogs for the Emperor of Japan.

Have a great day,

Hi Ann,

You are most welcome my friend, it is always a pleasure to share my time with the Pack with everyone.  Diva is gaining weight and still keeping LT away from the pups, but she is very open to Loki's exploration of her "den".  Oh and speaking of Loki, he is not yet a year old but is already pushing 70lbs, no fat just muscle (he is a friggin monster!). X^)

All my best,

Aloha

Hey Sushicat,

Thank you for the nice thoughts towards the pups. :^)

Huskies can be many colors, but Black and White seems to be the most prevalent.  All of the pups eyes have settled (probably) and they are all blue, how friggin cool is that?  I really want to keep them all *Rob chants NOT FEASABLE five times* but I will do what is necessary.

Have a good evening,

Aloha

My pleasure to share the Pack with the vine, and welcome my new friend.  I have had Siberians or Malamutes since Highschool, and I have come to realize that true Arctic Dog joy is four or five or more of'em. X^)
