A week of opportunistic urban prospecting pays... kind of.
Here is a quick look at one of my current revenue streams. Every time I harness-up and take my dogs (The Pack) on their daily walks I carry a couple of plastic shopping bags with me. One for Dog poop, one for aluminum cans, plastic/glass. Those street finds combined with the cans generated by my Coca-Cola habit form a small but significant addition to my monthly budget ledger.
The photos represent about a half-n-hour's worth of sorting, bagging, and transporting of the recyclable commodities to the local Recycling Center.
Total time expended in the week related to recycling activities - around 4hrs or so.
Payout for this week - $21.50
So I earned about $5.00/hr
This week is about average for me lately... I could increase my finds by walking the dogs through the parks in my neighborhood (there are four small and two large parks within our walking radius)and hitting those trash cans, but that would lead to little dog confrontations with The Pack - That is No Good.
I used to raid the city recycling containers on the night before trash-day, but I have stopped the practice. The economy is so bad that there are folks raiding the city recycling containers during the daytime, and by nightfall all the sellable commodities are gone. That is to the detriment of my cash holdings, oh well just have to be careful in spending is all.
Please note the eco-friendly transport system (who says Libertarians don't care about the environment?)... Got to love them Siberian Huskies!
