Well, a friend of mine died yesterday. Rudy White was his name, and though he lived his days on the streets of Santa Ana, he held a quiet dignity about his person. He died @0300 in a friends backyard of a massive heart attack, at least he had friends with him.
Rudy worked most of his life as a paver… long days in the So Cal sun, working with hot asphalt. His company went out of state about five years ago, Rudy did not want to leave Santa Ana. Long story short Rudy found himself living out of a shopping cart. Even though he had literally nothing, he was always generous with a kind word or funny story (even if it was a story he’d told you the day before, it was still good stuff).
The sad thing is that he was finally going to receive his Social Security, something the Social Security Admin fought him tooth & nail about (from my understanding).
Some of you will recognize my friend’s image, he has appeared in a number of my photo-walk pieces. I will really miss the man and the conversations we had yet to have.
Good-Bye, Rudy White - You Will Be Missed!
